LAMS MUSIC

grade 5

Welcome to Grade 5! This is the last year of our elementary experience, a year for reflection on Elementary School and preparation for Middle School. In Grade 5 music, we are looking into some big picture topics: Why create music? Why is music so meaningful to some? How can I make meaningful music myself? We will be first exploring the idea of musical inspiration but picking a tune and creating a theme and variation. Taking what we learned about the musical elements last year, we will create variations on a tune, each with a different inspirations. This will be our warm-up to our main composition project of the year. Using various different formats learned through their years in elementary school, 5th graders will create a piece of music based on someone who inspires them.

For more information about what we learn in Grade 5, click on the Grade 5 Curriculum page. To find additional resources for music learning at home, click on the Grade 5 Resources page.
